Me leg is sore today.
I awoke to the sound of tires spinning on the small hill outside my window.
For the first time this year, it’s icy out there.
I’m nervous about walking to the streetcar.
I don’t want to slip and get hurt again.
I’ve been dreading the ice and snow since I broke my leg.
I can’t even use my hands to break my fall, as one is in a cast.
I feel like I’m 80 years old.
I want to call in sick and stay home.
I don’t have any sick days left, and I’m not really sick.
Bahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Nervous

Limited sickdays is the biggest bullshit policy ever. I can see if people are taking advantage, but sometimes people just generally get sick, and should they then come into the office and make everyone ELSE sick? Booo!
Taxi !!!!!!!
Seriously though, you need to quit your job and spend your time drinking milk and playing BF2! That would rock…
They have policies because people do exactly what Derek wants to do. Call in sick for a BS reason.
You can buy this thing that you strap on the bottoms of your boots/shoes that has little sharp metal cleats in it. Sort of like galoshes (or “rubbers” as my grandfather used to call them), but with spikes. I’m not sure where to get them– maybe MEC or Cdn Tire? You’d be unstoppable with these on.
This is directed to the Web Surfer. Why would you make a comment like that? He just broke his leg 8 months ago, his arm is in a cast, and neither has healed 100%. You mentioned “calling in sick for BS reasons” well some of us revolve ourselves around our health and happiness, and not our jobs. I am not insulting you if you do, just don’t insult others because they don’t follow your working code.
Sam, calling in sick because you are afraid that you may fall is a BS reason. Derek’s apprehension about slipping is understandable but not an excuse to call in sick. If he can go to boxing lessons, he can walk to the bus stop. What is he going to do, hole himself up until winter is over? I also “resolve myself around my health and happiness” however I also value dedication to my commitments and a work ethic. I think Derek acknowledged my point when he said he wanted to call into work but he wasn’t really sick which indicated that he kew it was wrong.
in sarnia you can get the rubber cleats that fit on your boots in the dollar store. i have some, do you want me to mail them? it might also be a good idea to have a cane for a bit, you add a tip on it that has 3 spikes, they are found in health care centers and some shoppers drug marts. its not funny to be afraid of falling when you have had injuries. its the pitts and quite normal. love ya hon, ps a taxi on bad days is not a bad idea
take your mom up on her offer, those things really work,I used to use something like it before I moved to the South West where its very rare to get ice/snow.know how you feel having recently had back surgery, get nervous around people thinking they are going to bang into me.when you are tall and have an athletic build (like us) you tend to go down real hard when you fall.
ps. we have just had the worst ice/snow down here for 20 years, not much by Canadian standards but we are ground to a halt.Im staying in today ,a taxi cant get up our hill.
For the record, I haven’t gone to boxing since I broke my left wrist. Kind of hard to box with just 1 arm in the fight.
Who is this masked man they call “The Websurfer”? I would like to point out that Derek has a broken wrist. You cannot box with a broken wrist. People call in sick for valid and invalid reasons, and people have different perceptions of what being sick is. But if it doesn’t effect anyone but the person who is “sick” then why bother stressing over something that has no concern for anyone but the person who called in?
This new posting system dosnt get posts in order and makes it tricky to follow the order, what with time differences and all anyhow:::
way to go…aka Sam and to Web Surfer….one hand as Im sure you know is all you need.
Sam, You have proven my point for me. The reason sick day policies are in effect are because people call in sick for poor reasons when they aren’t really sick but don’e feel like going to work, like Derek has expressed in the posting! Secondly, who does it really effect other than the person calling in sick?? Are you kidding me?? Ask anyone who works in a team how it effects the team when one person calls in sick repeatedly. Further, ask any small or large organization what sick days do to productivity. Quit being his supportive girlfriend and call a spade a spade. Besides, I don’t even know if he did call in sick. I was referring to the comment about sick days being bullshit.
Okaaayyyyyy… I like conversations, and even debates in my comments… but this is starting to seem more like a fight, and it’s lost whatever appeal it had for me… so, if you could stop fighting, that’d be great. I like people who read my site, and I like my girlfriend, and I did not call in sick, so let’s just wrap this up.
Fair enough…done and done
okay okay, I call truce. I don’t know who you are Mr. Websurfer, but I rather enjoyed our debate.
foot in mouth
Hi Derek, have you gotten my e-mail? I haven’t heard back from you. Please respond. Thanks.
