Good question! I’m not sure at all, and it’s too bad that none of us thought to ask Dr Greer that question.
Perhaps to carry posessions/equipment?
Maybe for its defensive properties & to help hide them from our military?
Maybe to give us some protection while we’re with them?

Thank you for that awesome, highly readable report! If ETS can dematerialize and operate on another plane of existence, why do they need “ships”, organic or not?
