BigDaddy said: See Derek, I told all those months ago that you didn’t hate coding, you just hated sitting around doing nothing. I felt the same way, and at my current gig I get to build things instead of just doing bugfixing. Bugfixing is depressing, especially if you didn’t create the code in the first place. at 2006-08-02 14:05:44

Apparently Not

if it’s really “all for the best”, you won’t have a stop sign in your head when replying to all those ladieezzzz trying to spark a conversation with you.

Beauty in the way the code looks has nothing to do with beauty in the way the code functions. Editors are not meant to make your code pretty, they are provided as tools for rapidly building things. Otherwise, how can you explain the popularity of vi? :)

Besides, editors are a very personal thing for programmers. Me, I’ve settled on using TextMate along with support tools like Cyberduck for FTP and the good old command line for pretty much everything else. What you call elegant, others are bound to call either ugly or pretentious.

Besides, only a n00b blames the tools instead of himself ;) at 2006-08-21 13:14:02

The same way I can explain the popularity of Windows. People will settle for cheap crap. That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be an OSX.

Besides, editors are a very personal thing for programmers.

Yep, and so far I haven’t found one that I love.

What you call elegant, others are bound to call either ugly or pretentious.

Fine by me. I’m not ‘others’.

Besides, only a n00b blames the tools instead of himself ;)

Let’s not confuse something that simply gets the job done with something that does its job elegantly and beautifully.

I’m not blaming the tool for anything. My code is fine. That shouldn’t stop me from wanting better tools, though. This is exactly the desire that moved us from pen & paper to digital. at 2006-08-21 15:38:27
